(or similar card) and the damage to deal would reduce your life to 0, although the damage cannot be reduced, you will still gain 1 life due to the effect of this card, BUT you will gain the life before the impact resolves, so you will only live if you were at the exact amount of life for the impact to make you lose.
- Basically, if you are at 4 life, your opponent casts Gargantua, you may activate this card, but you will still take damage, however you will gain 1 life, making you at 5 before taking the 4 damage, keeping you in the game.
- Of course, in this scenario, you will still lose if your life is at 3 or less, since even with the life gain, you will still take lethal damage.
